Best Performance Management Software

Best Performance Management Software, featured image

The best performance management software depends on where review data should live. A company that already runs BambooHR, Rippling, HiBob or Zoho People can often switch on the performance module in the same system, so goals, reviews and pay changes sit next to the employee record. A company that wants calibration sessions, manager coaching or heavy customization usually picks a standalone tool such as Lattice, 15Five, Culture Amp, Leapsome or PerformYard. This page compares nine tools on the parts that decide the choice: how a review cycle is built, who can run calibration, which plan unlocks what, and what each tool costs at 30, 100 and 250 people.

Prices and plan limits come from vendor pages read on October 22, 2026. Four of the nine tools publish a US dollar price for the performance plan, two list euros only and three publish no price, and we say so instead of quoting a third party's estimate. Review ratings come from G2 or Capterra summaries, and each entry names its source. Review counts change daily and differ between snapshots, so read them as approximate. We didn't run hands-on trials, so every entry describes documented features and what reviewers report.

What Is Performance Management Software?

Performance management software runs the cycle in which a company sets goals, collects feedback, writes reviews, compares ratings across managers and plans development. The five jobs overlap, and tools differ in how many of them they cover. Here's each job in one line.

  • Goals. People and teams set goals or OKRs, and progress is updated through the cycle.
  • Feedback and one-on-ones. Managers and peers give feedback during the year, and one-on-ones keep notes and action items.
  • Reviews. The tool collects self, manager, peer and upward assessments, including 360 reviews.
  • Calibration. Leaders compare ratings across managers before results are shared, often with a 9-box grid.
  • Development. Results turn into growth plans, promotions or performance improvement plans.

Two kinds of product answer the query, and they aren't interchangeable. HR platforms such as BambooHR, Rippling, HiBob and Zoho People sell performance as a module next to the employee record, time off and payroll. Standalone tools such as Lattice, 15Five, Culture Amp, Leapsome and PerformYard focus on the cycle and connect to your HRIS for employee data. If you're still choosing the record system itself, our guide to HRIS software compares the options.

Who Owns Each Step of a Review Cycle

A review cycle fails at the handoffs, not in the software. Software can't fix a missing owner, but it can make one visible. Each step below has an owner, and a tool is only as good as the step it leaves without one.

  1. HRPick the cycle type, rating scale, questions and who reviews whom 4 to 6 weeks before launch
  2. HR and ITSync the employee list from the HRIS so reporting lines, new hires and leavers are correct before launch
  3. EmployeeWrite the self-review and name peers if the cycle asks for them first week of the cycle
  4. ManagerWrite the manager review and rate against the rubric second and third week
  5. HR and leadersRun calibration so ratings are comparable across managers before anyone sees them after manager reviews close
  6. ManagerHold the review conversation and share results after calibration
  7. HR and financeFeed outcomes into pay, promotion and development decisions after results are shared

Two of those steps decide which tool fits. The first is the HRIS sync, because a review cycle built on a stale employee list sends reviews to the wrong manager. It's also the step nobody notices until a review lands in the wrong inbox. The second is calibration, because only some of these tools document it, and the rules differ on who can enter calibrated scores and whether a view can be changed after it's published. Both appear in the entries below, and it's clear from the documentation that the tools handle them very differently.

How We Compared the Tools

We picked tools for relevance to the query and then read, for each one, the pricing page, a product page, a help-center or documentation page and a review source. Four questions drove the comparison.

  1. How is a cycle built? Who creates it, which review types it supports and what a manager has to do.
  2. What is gated? Which plan unlocks 360 feedback, calibration, PIPs and AI drafting.
  3. What does it cost at your headcount? List price, add-ons, minimums and contract terms.
  4. What do users report? A rating and one recurring strength and complaint, with the source named.

We've left out tools that only do engagement surveys, compensation planning or learning, and tools that only monitor activity.

Best Performance Management Software Inside HR Platforms

BambooHR, Rippling, HiBob and Zoho People sell performance next to the employee record. The upside's that reporting lines and leavers come from the same system. The downside is that you're buying a whole HR platform to get the module, and the performance depth is usually lighter than in a specialist tool, although that's not true of every vendor here.

BambooHR

BambooHR is a core HR platform for small and mid-sized companies, with employee records, onboarding checklists, reports and an applicant tracking module.

Core HR platform 4.4 · 7,724 G2 reviews

It's a fit for a US company that wants reviews, goals and one-on-ones in the HRIS it already uses for records and time off.

An admin opens Settings, then Performance, and creates a review cycle. The cycle picks employees by department, status or location and starts on a fixed date or on each person's hire date. The admin turns assessment types on or off (self, manager, peer and upward), adds custom questions and sets the frequency. A draft can be saved before launch, and several cycles can run at once.

A 360 cycle needs all four assessment types enabled. Reports show review and goal data by department, location and job title.

Choose it when
  • you already run BambooHR and want reviews on the same employee record
  • you need self, manager, peer and upward reviews with reporting by department and location
Skip it when
  • you need calibration sessions or a 9-box grid: BambooHR's performance page doesn't mention them
  • you only want performance tooling: reviews require the Pro tier of the HR platform

How it works in practice

Performance management is part of the Pro plan at $17 per employee per month, and the Elite plan at $25 adds compensation management. The pricing page's FAQ shows $10.25 and $17.50 instead, so confirm the exact amount in your quote. Companies with 25 employees or fewer pay a flat $250, $425 or $650 per month depending on the tier, so the Pro tier is $425 for a small team.

BambooHR's performance page doesn't mention calibration sessions or a 9-box grid. If your leaders need to compare ratings across managers before results go out, ask how BambooHR does that today. For the HR platform itself, see our BambooHR review and BambooHR pricing guides.

Rippling

Rippling is a modular workforce platform that runs HR, payroll and IT from one employee record, priced per module.

Modular HR, IT and payroll platform 4.7 · 14,586 G2 reviews

It's a fit for a company that already runs Rippling for HR and payroll and wants review outcomes to flow straight into pay changes.

An admin launches a review cycle from employee data and milestone triggers. Feedback can be given and requested in Rippling or in Slack and shows up in the review, and goals display their progress inside it. Calibration happens from within the cycle using customizable worksheets and drag-and-drop 9-box grids.

When a cycle ends, Rippling says it'll update employee profiles and sync compensation changes with payroll. That sync's the reason to pick it: the review result and the pay change live in one system.

Choose it when
  • you want calibration results to update pay in the same system
  • you already use Rippling HRIS and payroll and don't want a second vendor for reviews
Skip it when
  • you want performance software without moving HRIS and payroll: the module's value is the sync
  • you need a published price to budget: none exists for the performance module

Rippling's page also describes AI that analyzes compa ratios and pay disparities and benchmarks manager effectiveness from upward reviews. We read that as a vendor claim, and we haven't tested it, so it's one to ask about in a demo.

Pricing is still the weak spot. Rippling's pricing page says plans start at $8 per employee per month with a monthly base fee, and it gives no price for the performance module. Third-party estimates are higher, but we don't quote them. We couldn't find a help-center article that walks through building a cycle, so ask for that in a demo, since it's the step your admins will repeat every cycle. Our Rippling pricing guide covers how the bill grows with modules.

HiBob

HiBob (the product is called Bob) is a core HR platform with workflows, approvals and optional modules for payroll, hiring and performance.

Core HR platform for mid-sized and multi-country teams 4.5 · 2,555 G2 reviews

It's a fit for a company that already runs Bob as its HRIS and wants 360 reviews and goals inside it.

An admin defines a cycle, previews it before launch and selects participants by conditions such as employment type and tenure. The cycle can include self, peer and manager reviews. Employees can choose their own peer reviewers, and upward and peer reviews can be anonymous.

Cycle settings, reminders and messages stay editable after launch. Cycle owners get participation tracking and dashboards, and a performance mapping grid plots review results on any two attributes with filters and export.

Zoho People

Zoho People is a cloud HR platform from Zoho with an employee database, leave, attendance, onboarding and performance, sold per user on four tiers.

Low-cost core HR platform 4.4 · 424 G2 reviews

It's a fit for a small team on a tight budget, especially one that already runs other Zoho apps.

An admin builds appraisal cycles from custom templates and picks an evaluation method based on goals, responsibilities, skills or competencies. Employees complete self-appraisals, managers and peers add multi-rater or 360 feedback, and reviews can run continuously. Results can be plotted on a 9-box matrix by performance and potential.

How it works in practice

Appraisals and 360 feedback sit on the Premium tier, which costs EUR 3 per user per month on annual billing. The Essential HR tier is EUR 1.25 and Professional is EUR 2, so you'll want to check which tier your performance features need before you budget. Zoho offers a 30-day trial on paid plans, and there's a free plan for up to 5 users covers the employee database and leave, not appraisals.

There's a currency trap here. From our location Zoho's page redirected to a euro price list, and we couldn't confirm a US dollar page, so you'll need to ask for a USD quote. We also didn't find a help-center article that sequences a cycle step by step.

Best Standalone Performance Management Software

Lattice, 15Five, Culture Amp, Leapsome and PerformYard focus on the cycle, but they depend on your HRIS for employee data, so the sync is the first thing you'll want to test. Their pricing is per seat or per module, and several carry minimums that you'll only see in the quote.

Lattice

Lattice is a performance management platform sold as annual per-seat modules: Performance, Goals & OKRs and Engagement, with Compensation and Grow as add-ons.

Performance management platform 4.7 · 4,114 G2 reviews

It's a fit for a mid-size company that wants reviews, calibration, promotions and PIPs in one plan and is comfortable with an annual contract.

An admin creates a cycle under Admin, Performance, Reviews, Create cycle, and switches on Calibration under the Evaluation settings. Calibration groups are made per department, manager or role, by hand or from a CSV upload. Only Lattice admins, group facilitators and users with a calibration custom role can enter calibrated scores, and scores can be bulk-updated by CSV.

Calibration applies only to manager (downward) ratings, and it can't be enabled in a cycle without downward reviews.

Goals and OKRs are a separate $8 plan, and Compensation (+$6) and Grow (+$4) are add-ons. Analytics, an AI agent and integrations come with every base plan, and Goals lists Salesforce and Jira integrations.

Lattice bills all contracts annually and states a $4,000 minimum annual agreement, which works out to about 33 seats, so it's the figure to check first on the Performance plan. The pricing page doesn't mention 360 reviews, so if 360 matters, get the plan that includes it in writing, because it's not on the pricing page. 15Five

15Five is a performance management platform with Engage ($4), Perform ($11) and Total Platform ($16) plans per user per month, plus paid AI and coaching add-ons.

Performance management platform 4.6 · 1,850 G2 reviews

It's a fit for a company that treats performance as a manager habit and wants reviews, check-ins, OKRs and a talent matrix together.

A review admin opens Reviews, then Add review cycle, names it and picks the review types: self, manager, peer and upward. The admin sets dates, cadence and participants, can attach objectives, and chooses a question template per review type. Rating formulas, a rubric, rating visibility and a kickoff email are configured before the cycle is saved.

Calibration has to be enabled before launch and needs at least one manager review type. Sessions are created from the cycle's Calibrations tab.

AI-assisted reviews draft self and manager reviews only, not peer or upward, and they need at least one open-text question. The Perform plan at $11 per user per month lists AI-assisted reviews, OKRs and goals, 360 feedback, a talent matrix and career paths. Engage is $4 and the Total Platform bundle is $16, billed annually.

The add-ons are where the bill grows, and it's easy to miss them: Kona Notetaker is $2 per employee, Kona Coach is $19 per manager, Manager Products is $49 per manager and Compensation is $9 to $11 per user. 15Five's pricing page doesn't map calibration or 1:1s to a plan, so you'll need to ask which plan includes them. The vendor page names no free trial, although a G2 summary mentions one, so you'll want to confirm it before you plan a pilot.

Culture Amp

Culture Amp sells Engage (surveys), Perform (reviews, calibration, 360, goals, 1:1s) and a Full Platform bundle by quote, with price depending on headcount and service tier.

Employee feedback and performance platform 4.5 · 1,530 G2 reviews

It's a fit for a company that already runs engagement surveys and wants reviews, calibration and 360 feedback from the same vendor.

Admins need the Performance (Full Permissions) role to set up cycles, and an Account Admin alone isn't enough. Calibration runs through calibration views: Performance, Admin, Calibrations, Create calibration view. The admin picks one or more cycles, can turn on a ratings preview and a comparison with up to three past cycles, invites calibrators and publishes.

A published calibration view can't be edited or deleted, and cycle emails can't be customized. Culture Amp recommends testing a cycle first with 3 to 5 dummy users.

Leapsome

Leapsome is a modular people platform; Performance Reviews is EUR 7 and Goals & OKRs EUR 4 per employee per month on its pricing page, which lists euros only.

Performance and engagement suite 4.8 · 2,412 G2 reviews

It's a fit for a mid-size team that wants reviews, OKRs and surveys as separate modules it can add over time, with 360 and project-based reviews.

An admin builds a cycle from a template that covers base settings, scope (who assesses the reviewee), questions, visibility, timeline and notifications. A draft mode lets the admin review it before choosing participants and launching. Recurring reviews can be triggered by rules and workflows with automated notifications.

Leapsome's help center describes calibration as happening after the manager finalizes a review and before it's shared with the employee, using a heatmap, a distribution chart and a box view in review analytics. It's listed as a Pro feature.

PerformYard

PerformYard is a performance management platform built around configurable review cycles, with a Performance plan and a Talent Development plan priced per person per month.

Performance management platform 4.7 · 184 G2 reviews

It's a fit for a company with its own review process that wants software shaped around it, not the other way round.

An admin opens Review Cycles, chooses New Review Cycle and picks a type: Manual, Automated or Group. The admin sets the name, start date and time and whether to lock reviews, then chooses one template whose forms apply (Forms, 360 Forms and External Forms) and adds subjects. Due dates are relative to the cycle start, and automated cycles assign reviews as employees qualify.

A start date can be edited only until it passes, and a cycle can be deleted only before it starts or while it has no reviews.

Admins can lock reviews from non-admins, only admins and billing admins can set forms to redacted, and group admins see only their groups' cycles. Deleted forms and answers can't be recovered, so you'll want to export before you clean up. Goals link to reviews, and nine-box and calibration views support talent decisions. 360 reviews can include people outside the organization.

The pricing page showed $5 to $15 per person per month billed annually when we read it, and a search snippet showed $5 to $10, so you'll want to confirm the number in your quote. What Does Performance Management Software Cost?

Performance management software costs from a few dollars to about $17 per person per month where a price is published, but the real bill depends on minimums, add-ons and whether you're buying a whole HR platform. Quote-only tools, of course, can't be compared on price until you ask. At 100 people, 15Five's Perform plan at $11 comes to $1,100 per month, or $13,200 a year. Lattice's Performance plan at $10 comes to $1,000 per month, or $12,000 a year. PerformYard's published range of $5 to $15 spans $500 to $1,500 per month. BambooHR's Pro plan at $17 comes to $1,700 per month, but that price covers the whole HRIS, not only reviews.

Move the slider to see the monthly cost at your headcount. Leapsome and Zoho People list euros, and Culture Amp, HiBob and Rippling's performance module are quote-only, so they're not in the calculator.

Team size: 100 employees
  1. PerformYard, low end$5 per person, bottom of the published range$500 per month
  2. Lattice Performance$10 per seat, $4,000 annual minimum, so at least 34 seats are billed$1,000 per month
  3. 15Five Perform$11 per user, billed annually$1,100 per month
  4. PerformYard, high end$15 per person, top of the published range$1,500 per month
  5. BambooHR Pro$17 per employee, includes the full HR platform$1,700 per month

Monthly cost at list prices on October 22, 2026, before add-ons. BambooHR's flat small-team pricing for 25 employees or fewer is $425 per month for Pro.

Four things move the bill beyond the list price.

  • Minimums. Lattice's $4,000 minimum annual agreement means a 20-person team pays for about 33 seats. You'll want to check minimum seats and contract values for every quote-only tool.
  • Add-ons. 15Five's AI notes ($2 per employee) and coaching ($19 per manager) are paid extras, and compensation adds $9 to $11 per user.
  • Modules. Lattice and Leapsome price goals, engagement and compensation separately, so a three-module setup costs more than the headline number.
  • Platform fees. BambooHR's Pro price buys the whole HRIS, and Rippling adds a monthly base fee to its per-employee price.

Should You Use Your HRIS Module or a Standalone Tool?

Use the HRIS module when the cycle is simple and the main risk is a stale employee list, and choose a standalone tool when calibration, customization or manager coaching decide the outcome. The table shows how the decision plays out, while the cost section above shows what each route costs.

What Happens to Review Data When Someone Leaves?

Review data is employment data, and it'll usually need to outlive the tool, although every vendor handles exports differently. Before you sign, ask each vendor three questions.

  1. Can you export it? Culture Amp's multi-cycle calibration views can't be exported as a single file, and PerformYard says deleted forms and answers can't be recovered. Neither's a flaw, but both mean you'll want to plan exports before the first leaver.
  2. Who can see it after offboarding? Check whether a manager who moves teams keeps access to old reviews, and whether a leaver's reviews stay on file.
  3. What syncs back to the HRIS? Tools with an HRIS sync should handle new hires and leavers automatically, but PerformYard's Capterra reviewers report weak employee sync. That's why you'll definitely want to test one hire and one leaver before launch.

Reviews, ratings and PIPs usually fall under your own retention policy, so it's worth involving legal before you pick a tool that stores them. For the people side of leaving, our exit interview questions guide covers what to ask on the way out.

How to Choose Performance Management Software

Before you sign
  • Name who creates the cycle, who writes reviews and who runs calibration
  • Ask which plan unlocks 360 feedback, calibration, PIPs and AI drafting, in writing
  • Get a quote at your headcount, including minimums, add-ons and the contract term
  • Test the HRIS sync with one new hire, one manager change and one leaver
  • Run a pilot cycle with 3 to 5 test users before the first real one
  • Ask how to export review data and how long it's kept after someone leaves
  • Check whether results can be changed after calibration is published

Performance reviews also depend on what happens before the review. A new hire who spent the first month waiting on laptop access and approvals starts with a handicap that no rating scale shows. Our guides to the onboarding process and employee onboarding software cover that earlier part of the employee lifecycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does performance management software do?

It gives HR and managers one place to run goals, feedback and reviews through the year instead of in spreadsheets and email. Depth varies a lot: some tools stop at reviews and goals, while others add calibration, 360 feedback and improvement plans, and the plan you buy decides which of those you'll get.

How much does performance management software cost?

Published prices run from about $5 to $17 per person per month, and the three tools without a price need a quote. Check minimums and add-ons first, because Lattice's $4,000 annual minimum and 15Five's paid AI add-ons move the bill more than the list price does. The calculator above shows monthly cost at your headcount.

What is the best performance review software?

The best performance review software is the one that fits where your data lives and how you run calibration. PerformYard suits custom review processes, 15Five suits manager-led check-ins, Lattice puts calibration and PIPs in one plan, and BambooHR or Rippling suit teams that want reviews on the employee record. Run a pilot cycle with 3 to 5 test users before you commit, and you'll learn more than a demo shows.

Is performance management software the same as an HRIS?

No, performance management software isn't the same as an HRIS. An HRIS stores employee records, time off and payroll data, while performance software runs goals, reviews and feedback. BambooHR, Rippling, HiBob and Zoho People sell both in one platform. Standalone tools such as Lattice, 15Five, Culture Amp, Leapsome and PerformYard connect to an HRIS for employee data.

Is there free performance management software?

We found no free plan that covers performance reviews among these nine tools. Zoho People has a free plan for up to 5 users, but it covers the employee database and leave, and appraisals start on the Premium tier. Leapsome lists a 14-day trial and Zoho offers a 30-day trial on paid plans, while Lattice and Culture Amp offer a demo.

What is the best employee monitoring software?

The best employee monitoring software isn't on this page, because the tools here collect goals, feedback and reviews that people write. Products that track apps, screens or keystrokes are a separate category and raise privacy and consent questions, so check local law and your own policy before using one.
